Robert BerentzDoes America have a Tin Ear?Published: Aug. 11, 2007 at 5:33 PMLast modified: Aug. 11, 2007 at 5:37 PM What do you think of the mixture of electronic playback with the electric violin? Suddenly, I see the violin is on equal footing with the piano, or even exceeding it. The hip and beatnicks are tearing into a new source of excitement and perhaps a new modern era (YouTube Documented). Musically Speaking, saddest of all, looking about no new furrows are being plowed by our old establishments.
Send MePublished: Aug. 4, 2007 at 1:45 PMThere are only about a million retirement homes that would love to hear your favorite violin pieces. I have visited these shut ins at Christmas with the Salvation Army handing out presents. Over half would see me come into their room and raise up in bed and say, "Oh, Jim you finally came to see me. I have wanted you to visit for so long. I'm glad you came!" My name is Bob, ... but for a moment ... I held their hand ... and was Jim.
The Power of OnePublished: Aug. 3, 2007 at 1:36 PMLast modified: Aug. 3, 2007 at 4:26 PM Her husband died, she runs a small ranch by herself and has lots of kids, grandkids and great grandkids. A full life. But that is not why I'm telling you this story. She also runs a huge feeding program for the poor of Salt Lake City under an overpass for shelter and has a good size thrift store filled with food and clothing. She told me sometimes they give food to the Salvation Army and sometimes the Salvation Army gives food to them. As they served us breakfast at Morning Star Ranch at our camp meeting, not knowing what the situation was I asked her big good looking son if he ran the outfit. He said, "if you ask Mom she would say yes, but that isn't true, she does."
One heard lyrics and one heard melodyPublished: Aug. 3, 2007 at 1:22 PMLast modified: Aug. 4, 2007 at 1:50 PM Two guys from Texas came down to our Camp Meeting at Morning Star Ranch, Jackpot, NV. One of the songs they sang was a co-op. Mike got the lyrics and Teddy Bear told him about a song that kept running through his head. Mike asked him to play it and reached into his file drawer and pulled out his lyrics. It was a match, "Laying at the Feet of Jesus." The wild range fires are out and we had a great time last weekend.
