With so much turmoil going on in the world, I thought we might enjoy a weekend vote that doesn't churn up a lot of strong opinions and heated emotion, and so here is what I came up with:
What color is the interior of your main violin case?
While it may not alter the course of the planet, we do open up the violin (or viola or cello) case very frequently. It often sits open while we practice or teach or take a lesson, and the color stays with us for years. For example, if you have had more than one case, do you remember the interior color of "violin cases past"? I certainly do.
I still remember the first time I wanted to get a "nice" violin case, back in the days of the magazine-style Shar Music catalogue. I was picking out my dream case, (or really, pining for it) - an "American" - and I kept vascillating: blue or burgundy? Burgundy or blue? I went with burgundy, and it went with me for some 20 years. I had a Musafia case with a gold-yellow interior - my favorite color. At the moment the interior of my case is a silvery-grey. It's beginning to feel like time for a change!
What color is the interior of your case? For the vote, please pick whatever is the closest to the color of your main case. If it is several colors, pick the one that feels most dominant to you. Then tell us about it in the comments! Do you like the color, or not? If not, what would you prefer? Did you get to choose the color, or was it chosen for you? Did you feel too limited in your choices?

Blue inside and blue out (typical Hidersine). Boring, and I'd like something prettier, but the gf knows what cases I've got and won't tolerate another. Actually , apart from the copper-coloured Polish fiberglass case (black inside), I've got two blue Hidersine cases, one rectangular and one half-moon, and I don't think she has twigged the difference.
Blue inside and blue out for violin. Blue inside black out for viola. Both made by Hidersine
Burgundy, which for me is the Beethoven colour.
My violin case is blue inside and out. I can pick it out of a crowd easily. My viola case is black on the outside and they wanted to sell me a green interior but I held out for blue and had to wait a few days to get what I wanted. Blue is my favorite color. I like green as a color ok but it doesn’t work for me in velvet or in a viola case—LOL!
My viola case (main instrument) is burgundy inside, and my violin case is blue inside. Both cases are dark blue outside. I didn't think much about the color of either. I was shopping only for decent protection and accessory space at a reasonable price.
For some reason, I often switch the two in my mind and think the viola case is blue and the violin case is burgundy, even though I open the viola case almost every day. (In fact, I misremembered when I voted, even though I played a concert just last night.) One thing that might contribute to my instrument case Mandela effect is that the interior colors are swapped from the first violin case and first viola case I had, neither of which I chose. The case I got my violin in, which had belonged to a long-deceased great-uncle, had a burgundy interior. The first viola I played was one I borrowed for about four and a half years from my Caltech's chamber music program, and was in a case with a blue interior.
This appears to be an LGBT case. Good idea!
Like Andrew my memory is fallible so I had to look inside.
Buri we welcome the rainbow!
In London we have a gay community orchestra which meets at St. Pancras.
Very good they are too, Gordon!
Speaking of rainbow, cases with brocade. Stunning.
Makes monochromatic cases jealous.
Mine is all-black inside. It's so dark that I sometimes struggle to see the bow spinners.
So I stuck a sticker on the bit where the bow tip goes. The spinner has velvet on it so I've had to mark it periodically with a white sewing pencil.
I don't recommend all-black...
Robyn, to quote Hitchhiker's Guide:
“Every time you try to operate one of these weird black controls that are labelled in black on a black background, a little black light lights up black to let you know you’ve done it. What is this? Some kind of galactic hyperhearse?"
I didn't know this was a thing . . . I just got a case I could afford.

September 29, 2024 at 07:44 PM · Burgundy interior for the main case. Ditto for the second case. I like the color - it was what I had in mind when I picked out the cases, one during my student years, the other a few years after I finished school.
The third case has a tan inside. It came with my third fiddle, one I settled on after an in-home instrument comparison tryout. I’m happy with this color, too.
