Weather and Violins

February 7, 2008 at 2:14 AM

Has anyone ever noticed how different your violin can sound when the weather is different? It was raining today, and my violin had a much richer tone. The sound was terrific when I played the 'Meditation from Thais'. And generally, when it is hot out, my violin has a wolfy tone. Is this common with anyone else?

My viola LOVES the rain and warmth (in a moderate degree). It is dry air that she hates.

I could tell you about how scratchy my violin is right now at 25 below zero, but you would still miss out on hearing it for the past three hours like I did.

Every once in a while, I get to experience humid conditions, and then my violin sounds so velvety, mmm. But right now it's so scratchy it burns.
