Vacation and serious aftermath
May 21, 2008 at 9:41 PM
I went on vacation for 10 days in Japan, so 10 days without praticing at all. I came back and cannot even play a simple scale without going out of tune. I'm in DEEP trouble! How is it possible that with such a short break my technique deteriorates so fast? I'm scared, is this normal for a beginner?

Hey PM,
It's all part of the learning process. We've all suffered from the "here today, gone tomorrow" syndrome where all of a sudden, something we thought we had learned securely, isn't working for us. Don't worry, you'll get back to where you were. And it won't take ten days either. Maybe a day or two. Maybe if you really concentrate on getting that simple scale back in tune you'll be able to do it in 15 minutes or a half hour. And it will have been time very well spent.
Anyway -- welcome to the club!
Greetings , you came to Japan and you didn`t come and break bread with me. That`s sad. I woudl have enjoye dmeeting you.
Cheers,
Burp
Greetings,
actually it probaly isn`t a deterioration in technique. More like you have been practicing so hard you haven@t given your mind enough time to assimiloate all the new data you are ramming in. Thus, when you ahd a complete break the previous mental structures all collapsed as the mind begins buidlign a newer high level mentla model. At such time sprogress almost invariably seems backwards to the point of self destruction. Rather it is the rveers,
Cheers,
Buri

Buri, you always make me laugh. I was in Izu Hanto, the country side is so beatiful.
I will practice again tonight... you're right, I've been practicing hard with absolutely no breaks, hopefully it'll be back to normal soon. Husband and cat is sleeping, perhaps I should'nt be sawing on my violin until they wake up.
Greetings,
Izu Hanto is beautiful. Hope you found some good onsen.
Cheers,
Buri
It is called jet-lag. I have the same problem everytime I travel from the US to Asia. First few days are rough, but then everything starts falling into place again.
