===================================

The other afternoon, I downloaded and sampled Starbucks' summer mix and that inspired me to create my own. After all, everyone needs something to balance out their Death Cab and Stars tracks.

  1. lost in thought and nostalgia on a late night- Scarlatti's Piano Sonata in D Minor, L.108, K.213. This version played by Daniil Tirfonov during the 2011 Rubinstein Competition was especially poignant.

  2. on your way to the party you've been looking forward to all week- Ravel's Quartet in F-II. Assez vif, très rythmé, played by the Hagen Quartet

  3. counting the clouds on a lazy afternoon- Schumann's Kinderszenen, Op.15, played by Eric Zuber during this year's Rubinstein Competition

  4. getting ready for a hot date- Carmen Fantasy for two pianos, in a daring new arrangement by Andersen and Roe

  5. when you're in a new york state of mind- Bernstein's West Side Story Suite, played by Joshua Bell

 What a neat idea, coming up with a list like this.  I love listening to that Schumann, you are exactly right, it's just like watching the clouds go by!
