New blog for violin-related fiction books - Violin and Books

November 15, 2007 at 5:56 PM

Hello Everybody,

I'm excited to be part of this community of bloggers. I'm an author and violin student--have been for almost five years now. The violin has been an incredible challenge for a late starter like myself, and it has immensely inspired my writing.

Today I finally started a blog called Violin and Books (www.violinandbooks.wordpress.com). This had been a dream of mine for a long time. My aim is to put together a lot of information about violin-related fiction books (also nonfiction). I plan to interview authors who have written violin-related books, offer reviews and resources for those people who love both the violin AND books.

If you know of fiction books related to the violin (and that they're not on my site) please let me know so I can add them to my list.

Also, if you would like me to add your personal blog to my blogroll, just send me the link and I'll be happy to do that.

There's not a lot of information on my blog for the moment, as I just started it today--took me the whole day to put that small info together, so this will be a site that will grow with time.

I hope you will visit and let me know what you think.

Thanks!

If I recall correctly, Teres Mertez's blog had a long list of them earlier this year.

Thanks! I actually sent her a message. It was a pleasant surprised to know she's both a late starter AND a novelist, like myself! I just registered today, so I'm trying to find my way around and checking members' blogs...

Why don't you just do your blog here, where you'd have several thousand readers a day to see it?

Thanks for your message, Laurie. The thing is, I also plan to use my violinandbooks blog as a diary to record my daily progress, so I think it would be boring for the professionals here to have to see the crazy ruminations of a mere beginner almost every day :-). Also, since I plan to use my other blog as a way to promote my own books, I would feel uncomfortable posting press releases and reviews of my own work here--or would I be allowed to do that? I read in the guidelines that it's okay to make announcements of CD's and performances, so is it okay to make book anouncements as well?

I thought I would post my most interesting entries here. Can I post the same entry both on my other blog and here, or do you require fresh content always?

Thanks!

Best,
Mayra

Mayra, I love your site! You can bet I'll be a frequent visitor there. Books and violins are so very much up my alley these days. Caught a quick glimpse of the books you listed - looks like some are on my lists, too (thanks for posting the link, Tom!), but I'm looking forward to checking out the ones that aren't.

Do post some of your stuff here, and if you don't want to duplicate, post links to your site. (And link violinist.com to your site!) I'd love for you to link my blog, if you're looking for links. And also, I have an article that just came out in Doublestop Magazine, published by v.commer Karl Nelson, that I think you'll be very interested in reading. (I plan to post the link and a lead-in on my own blog, but won't get to it till December, probably, but here's a sneak preview!

Oh, and for what it's worth - you're NOT a beginner. : ) Just saw what you played in an average practice session. Gulp! Want to hear what THIS beginner plays? (Well, actually I won't tell you. But "humble" is the operative word here.)

Whoops. I got colorful there. Forgot the

to close the link. Hopefully by putting it here, I've closed it. If not, apologies for mussing up your blog here! : /

Thanks, Terez! Can't wait to read your article! Can I blog about it?
