Does anyone know of any tall shoulder rests or chin rests? With my current set up, my shoulder rest, my body of violin, and my chin rest make up a total of 3 to 3.5 inches. I have a long neck, and I need about five inches of violin, shoulder rest, and chin rest to be comfortable.

I discussed this issue in my blog on Feb. 15, 2006, and I displayed pictures there, too. I suggest that you check it out.

Greetings,
about the tallest chin rest around is the SAS. It is suppoes to be adjustable but personally I found the amount of change in angle minimal. Also it is too small for me as i have a chubby face. It is expensive so you would need to check it out before ordering it.
I think you would probably be okay with the deepest model of Guarneri or Kaufmann chinrets you can find.
That leaves the shoudler rest question. The Wolf Primo is adjustable to a great height. However, the cheapest and , in my opinion, most prefeable option to using a shoulde rrst is to use a songe. If you have a long neck it will be a large one... The sponge goes under your jacket or whatever. Stern recommended this to all the Chines esy\tudnets in his famous moview `From Mao to Mozart`
Not willing to enter the shoudler rest debate agian...
Cheers,
Buri

I had the same problem when I started learning the violin. Then I found Bond Musica shoulder rest. It has a hook shape that hooks onto the back of your shoulder. One good thing about this is less effort to hold up the violin. The bad thing is that you can't adjust much on the way you hold the violin once it's under your chin because of the hook.

So far I've tried about 4 different kinds of shoulder rests but found this to best suit me. There are high chin rest around to narrow the gap, but the Bond Musica shoulder rest is sufficient for me.
