Brass, Orange, and School

September 25, 2006 at 9:38 PM

I have just recently been chalenged by some friends to start trumpet. I don't know if I will. But it's a good possibility to try and expand my horizon. If I do start, this will complete my little orchestra.

Strings:
Violin
Cello
Guitar

Woodwind:
Clarinet

Percussion:
Piano

Brass:
None yet

Most people think I am incapable of doing this, but I would like to prove them wrong. Most people thought I wouldn't be able to play violin at all. But it doesn't matter because I proved many people worng.

If anyone is so kind as to have a copy of Orange Blossom Special and would be willing to send it to me I would be very grateful. Not the vocal version. I am referring to the really hard fiddling version. I have some people who want me to learn it. Thank you.

What is a subject that you hate the most and like the most?

I want a grand piano.

Brass instruments are awesome... I play tuba... they are super easy, and once you learn one you can play a few (like I play tuba, so that means I can also play b/c of figerings, Euphonium and trumpet (Eb).

I hate all political science classes.

I love botany and music theory.

Richard. It's not super easy for everyone. I honestly think you're a tuba genius and just don't realize it. For comparison, I could barely get a sound out of a tuba. Not one that would especially qualify as a note either. And I think it would stay that way no matter how much I worked.

I don't think you have to be a brass instrument genius to play. I know someone who played a little trumpet but can't do much more in music. Only a few notes. Trust me you don't need lots of talent

I think that jim is refering to my ability to play difficult pieces on the tuba at an early stage. (such as air in G and His majesty the tuba. You prob. havent heard of the second one but it is a level 5 NYSSMA and it is a standard tuba rep.) But yah, when I first started I couldnt get any notes to come out lol... it is so big and you have to put like a ton of air through it while buzzing your lips and tounging lol...

See Jim's earlier post somewhere in recent archives on the subject of *which* Orange Blossom Special recording to listen to.

You haven't lived as a one man orchestra until you can play the digeridoo.
