Has anyone out there ever gone to Pensacola Christian College for music?
"Spiritual Life : Musical Opportunities
"Students with musical talent will find many enjoyable ways in which to use their abilities. Five full choirs sing for various services at the College. Several ensembles travel across the country during the Interterm and summer months sharing the gospel with the lost and familiarizing young people with the ministry of Pensacola Christian College. In addition to these groups, the College has an orchestra and symphonic band as well as brass, woodwind, and strings ensembles.
"Students of exceptional ability perform in the Vespers services. Students wishing to develop their musical abilities will find that the fine arts faculty provides instruction in a variety of musical areas."
Sounds like music is part of the spiritual department there.
I don't know where you stand as far as biblical doctrine but if you want to a "christain" whatever-you could go to pcc-but--it's not acreateted (if that is how u spell it)-you also won't find real baptist doctrine-you have to go to the campus church-and such-like I said I don't know where you stand as far as that but-my advice is go to a secular college get your education-but stay in your local church. Besides I don't really think that Jaffe is really that great of a player ; )
sorry I rattled on so- hope it helps

As for acredited, I am not worried. I do not need acreditation to learn how to play the violin. And as for Baptist, I am taking the A Beka Academy 10th grade Bible Doctrines class. Which lines up pretty well. If not exact.
Oooooh that tickles.
Sorry wrong blog.
I did not. But one of my close friends did about 12 years ago. He hated every minute of it. Said it was the most closed-minded school he'd attended; that the actual experience was a farce compared to the pre-enrollment visit(s). hope i'm not shattering any opinions, just thought you should know.

Yes, and "closed-minded" can mean more than just philosophy and teaching you can quietly ignore. No holding hands in public for example. I'd have a good look at their list of rules and regulations before I considered it.
P.S. Speaking of things you could expect to see at some bible colleges, not a particular one.
And Mr. Jaffe plays wonderfully. Have you ever heard him play. He's quite amazing. Have you ever created your own violin program, and have lots and lots of people learn from it.

I visited your site. No wonder your friend didn't like it. And no wonder he thought it was closed minded. I don't think PCC teaches electric violin. Last time I checked anyways. I perfer to conserve energy and just play the acoustic violin.

hello sarah, Although what alot of what you say is true(ie i agree with you about te campus church thing) but going to a secular college for a musical education.... I believe they teach jazz rock rap etc as "Good music", which I do not beieve is.
Amen
An education is sort of the opposite of telling you the things you already think.
From another Christian's perspective, I would like to add that I had a very good experience going to college at the University of Oklahoma. Their school of music was great, and I made lots of wonderful friends there, some of whom I still talk to, 9 years later. My husband, on the other hand, tried three different Christian colleges for a theology degree and despised all of them.
Basically, if you want a college to spoon-feed you their doctrine and have you spit it back to them to get an A, you'd do just fine in most Bible colleges. Of course, I could be wrong. I'm only speaking from three or four college experiences, none of which were Pensacola. Every school is probably a little different. You never know, you might fit in just fine.
If you really want to pursue music, go to a school that has a top notch music program. If you don't agree with their stance on the purity of certain music genres, you can simply disagree. It won't kill you. You can take that time to study and test what you believe to see how it holds water. It's always good to go through and take inventory of your beliefs to see how valid they are from time to time.
