To hear an honest opinion, ask a kid

I'm playing at a violin recital tomorrow night (well, actually, tonight...it's after midnight) for the first time in 16 years. One of my pieces is "The Bee" by François Schubert. Last night my four-year-old daughter wanted to listen to me practice, and coincidentally she's really into bees right now, so I asked her to listen and tell me if it sounded like a buzzing bee.

Two thirds of the way through the piece I was feeling pretty good about it, when she piped up, "Mommy, it doesn't sound like a buzzing bee, it just sounds like a goofy song!"

Haha! Oh geez. That's totally something Kiera would say.

Karin, I hope your recital is going well tonight and happy mother's day!

Did you tell her that when a bee buzzes, it sounds like a goofy song? I hope your recital went well.

Thanks, Yixi and Pauline! I flubbed "The Bee" pretty badly at the recital (sounded like it was missing a wing or two :) ) but my other piece (Vocalise by Rachmaninoff) went all right. And after I sat down, my two-year-old crawled into my lap and put her arms around my neck and gave me two big kisses, after which it was impossible to feel bad. So, it was a good Mother's Day---and birthday---nonetheless!
