What was I writing last time about having trouble spending money on clothes? I thought I'd take advantage of all these Labor Day sales and drove a few towns over to hit the clothing stores in this mall I like.

Total money spent on clothes: $0
Total money spent on used CDs and books: $52

My favorite used books and music store is staffed by wonderful people who know a lot about books but apparently very little about classical music, so one can find some very good deals if one is willing to sort through a bunch of junk. I got a 4-CD set of Yehudi Menuhin, plus a recording of Cho-Liang Lin's Mendelssohn. Even though Mr. Lin's not as well-known as many other violinists, his interpretation of that concerto is still my all-time favorite, and not just because we share a last name. (I don't think we're related, given that Lin is like "Smith" among Taiwanese names.)

Anyway, I think it's time to go swap out everything in the CD changer. :)

How did you manage to get out of a store that sells used CDs and books and not spend more than $52?

My husband asked me the same thing. :) I'm very, very stingy. I usually think over a purchase multiple times before buying it, even if it's something I can easily afford. So this was a "splurge" for me, but judging from what I've already heard, it was a good one.

A kindred spirit! Books & music over clothes - always! But first, must mull over prices and choices.

you can offload the stuff for half used retail, so $26 is all she really spent.

It certainly was a good one.

It certainly was a good splurge. Jim, I like your math.

Anything you buy on ebay is free, by the same formula.

Mr. Lin is coming down to Wofford College here in South Carolina on Saturday to present a masterclass, and I'm definitely going to go and watch it. I've never really heard any of his playing...

Oh, lucky you, Pratik! I haven't seen him live in many years. I'd like to, but he doesn't seem to publish a tour schedule that I can find.
