Amber violin brooch-foto 2 + sweet melody in Symfonic Dances Rachmaninov

February 5, 2006 at 9:28 PM

Today I got a rehearsal day of an orchestra where we played Beethoven symfony 8, celloconcerto 1 of Vieuxtemps. In that orchestra was the woman with the amberbrooch. She had another foto of it and made it small enough enough in size for my blog. So here again a close-up of the amber brooch. After that rehearsal day I had another orchestra where we played Mozart and yesterday with a third orchestra this weekend we played Harmonium of Adams with a choir and Symphonic dances of Rachmaninov. In that last piece there is a beautiful melody in the first part, which is played by the first violinists. And the second violinists have 40 bars rest. That is not fair. So I made a copy of the first violin music and I play with them. The conductor didn't saw it, because I was sitting next to the first violinists.
But here again the brooch:

I love that brooch. Uh oh, you'd better be careful. The conductor will notice your trick soon, and who knows what he'll do?

I just looked on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/Polish-imported-amber-violin-brooch_W0QQitemZ5064155934QQcategoryZ110963QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) and found an amber violin brooch for $75.

Ha. That looks like the same pin. It's anatomically incorrect which would bug me a little. Far better to leave the F holes off than put them in the wrong place.

Thanks Pauline, I will put the other Polish brooches on my blog. The conductor didn't didn't make a remark, but it was only a rehearsal. Some 2th violinists saw me playing and looking in the first violindesk next to me and laughed. One 1th violinist would copy that part for me and give it the next rehearsal, but I don't know if I also will play it during our concerts.
But it is unfair of Rachmaninov, because in his 2th symfony, we played together with the first violinists an unisone sweet melody, like in his symfonic dances.
