Hannover violincompetition

October 11, 2006 at 11:05 AM

Last saturday I drove 4 hours to Hannover for the international Hannover violincompetition semifinals.

On the website http://www.violin-wettbewerb.de/de/violinwettbewerb/ stoot: semifinals 7 oktober (midday) and AM. First I saw Simone Lamsma walking in Hannover, but she had not reached the semi's, I had read one the website, and after finding a parkingplace In Hannover I walked to the concerthall at 14.05. I was too late.... The last candidate (Celeste Golden) of that day played on a screen in the hall. But all candidates had played between 10.00 till 14.30. Silly me and silly website. It was not clear on the website, but my mail about that later had not changed anything. At 14.30 a lot of people came out of the ugly concrete hall, where a statue of Joseph Joachim stoot. The candidates in the semi's had to play Romance op.2 Nr.1 of Joseph Joachim, but you can also hear that piece on the website:
http://www.violin-wettbewerb.de/de/violinwettbewerb/meta/downloads/
They also have like in Indianapolis video's of all the concerts of the candidates
Now I see that Celeste Golden, who also was playing in Indianapolis is not in the finals. Competitions are lotteries and golftournaments, with different winners.
But 21 oktober the next and much smaller violincompetition in Verviers http://www.vieuxtemps.be with my parents and the 10 candidates have to play the 2th violinconcerto of Henri Vieuxtemps (with piano). The winner only gets 2500 euro, 2th and 3th 1250 4th 650 euro, but you win for the honour and not the money like in Hannover: first price 30.000 euro, 2th price 20.000, 3th price 10.000
The finalists are:
Fanny Clamagirand
Nikita Borisoglebskiy
Zhijiong Wang
Suyoen Kim
Hyun-Su Shin
Kana Shugimura
After my short visit to Hannover I drove 4 hours back to Holland.
I know from this Hannovercompetition from one of the discussions on violinist.com : http://www.violinist.com/discussion/response.cfm?ID=9865
Ihope to get one day the 1th violinconcerto of Joseph Joachim on cd. The 2th and 3th I have already.

Bram,

What a shame!! Yes, the website is very good but there are 2 very obvious and glaring faults about it. One you found out, that midday and afternoon etc are not very accurate to tune in or attend.

The second, nowhere on the website there is even a hint of a programme of each contestant!!! So all you violin hotshots know what pieces each one is playing, but it would be nice for amateurs like me to know who is playing what. (OK I recognize some pieces but mostly not)

Bram what a shame!!
Are you going to try and go to the finals?

Yes, there 2 obvious and glaring gaps in the otherwise fanatstic web coverage.

1, as you have discovered, morning, midday, am, pm are not very accurate ways to describe times
and
2, there is nowhere a sign of the programme the contestants are playing/going to play. All the fine violinist hot shots on this page should have no trouble identifying the pieces, but amateurs like me would like a hint of who is playing what...

Now I discovered that when you download :http://www.violin-competition.de/en/violinwettbewerb/presseservice/index.html "press accreditation" you can get more information about semi's between 10.00 and 14.30. I was specially interested in the semi's because of the sonate of Joachim and the modern compulsury piece.
All the Mozartconcerto's and the compulsary standard romantic concerto's I know too well and I have 5 amateurorchestra's every week, so I also can't during the finals (and you don't know from the site whether they are sold out or not)

Bram, There is ticketing information onn the main page, and if you click on it, you go to another page where there is a phone number to buy tickets and also a dark blue box saying "online box office". It looks as if there are still tickets available of all different prices for Friday, and of lower prices for Saturday. But we still don't know what each competitor is playing though for the final...
