Still alive! (but shaky)

May 15, 2006 at 3:20 PM

Hi,

it's quite a long time since I wrote for the last time. So long that now I find myself removed from the blogists column at the right hand side of the page... I deserve it!

These days have been real mad. Three concerts in two weeks, rehearsals with the chamber orchestra and more rehearsals in the music school. It happened twice already that I was alone at the first violin. It stressed me a bit at the begining but after some time you get used to it, the only problem is that it's hard to hear that there is a first violin at all.

Here is a picture of me at the church in Spittal where we played our second concert.

One week ago I had my first solo appearance at the music school. The violin students (from 6 to 28, you can guess who was 28) play once a year for parents, teachers and directors. I was a guest player because I'll enter in September, but I thought it was a good moment to start my "solo career" and Iris said it would be possitive in order to make my entrance easier, so I prepared a Haydn duo (definitely not well practiced) and had the worst musical experience of the year. I slept 3.5 hours the night before (it happens to me at least once a week that I wake up and cannot sleep any longer, so I make a lot of extra hours at work). I took 5 coffee cups during the day to keep my eyes opened at work, but as I climed on the stage to play the duo with Iris my right hand was shaking so badly that everybody noticed it. I was quite ashamed, but it's not so bad, I'll just try to sleep better next year :D

Everything else is fine. Training for marathon in september goes on and I write slowly my phd thesis every day after dinner and hope I can submit in June (Andrew, a colleague from Phoenix, promised me this morning to drive tomorrow to Darmstadt with me if I finish it tonight... I think I'll give it a try! :)

Best regards to everybody and have a nice week!

I don't think I deserve that. Joshua Bell looks probably much better than me.
Is there already a Joshua Bell calender? I think he should think about it... ;D

Oooh, ¡qué guapo! ;) Sorry to hear about your performance...I've found that good sleep and diet is more essential than practicing. I'm sure you'll do fine next time. Good luck with the training and the thesis!

Linda!!!! What was that comment for?! It's a lovely picture, though. Unfortunately, Colleen is right and my desktop background honors go to a seagull.

My blog has disappeared!!! It'll be back in time.

Hmm, I keep coming back to look at this picture...(yes, I'm happily married, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate a good-looking guy!) We definitely need to start keeping track of the "hot violin dudes". Why should Bram and the other guys here have all the fun?

Karin, I'm with you, honey, on all counts.

Jesus, you are officially on the top of the list of Hot Violin Dudes. Okay, you violin chix out there - go evaluate his competition. I'm hoping for full reports (and pics!) from the field.
