Naming your instrument

February 7, 2008 at 3:20 PM

Lately, I've been trying to think of a good name to christen my violin with. I've gone through flowers, female composers, and even names in favorite books. I haven't thought of anything yet. Does anyone have good ideas? What do you name your instrument? I heard once that Yo-Yo Ma's cello was named Petunia when a student sugggested it. Has a nice ring to it...

I named my violin after something that i would like to keep coming back to, again and again. "Anakin," you know, the cute guy in the recent Star Wars.

Geesh, OK -

15" viola "The Old Man" (he's 100 years old)
16" viola is "Hilda"
Cello is "Goliath"
Piano is "Max"

If I was to ever get a violin, she would most likely be called "Thumbalina".
