I'm Back on V.com

MY EXCUSE
Everyone has their valid excuses when it comes to leaving v.com for a long time. Like many, my excuse associates with the word “busy”. I moved home, burnt my foot with boiling water (ouch!) and then there was the Christmas rush. I also spent far too much time looking for violin music on Youtube.

THE IMPORTANT THING
Anyways, the important thing is, I’m back.

KREISLER’S PRELUDIUM AND ALLEGRO
Speaking of Youtube, after thousands of clicking, I stumbled across Kreisler’s Preludium and Allegro. Apparently it’s very popular and I’m amazed how I never heard about it. I bought the sheet music with excitement and start going through the notes. If I knew this music a year earlier, I would have selected it as part of my Grade 8 exam piece (it is included in AMEB Grade 8 List C).

PRACTISE
Anyways, nothing much changed in terms of violin practice. There’s the technical works, the 4 exam pieces, then more technical works and so on. My cello practise has slag (is slag a real word?) big time. Though, I keep telling myself I’m not rushing with the cello and so as long I keep playing, I’ll get somewhere someday.

ORCHESTRA
The orchestra will be having their rehearsal end of next month for an outdoor concert. I’m very interested to join after looking at the music program, but worry if I have any time to practise and attending rehearsals. I haven’t play in the orchestra for ages!

BACH
After listening to Bach’s music arranged for violin and cello (from his piano suites and inventions), it let me back to learning Invention No. 8 on the piano. Not hard, just 2 pages but beautiful music. I’ll probably explore other Inventions to see which I can manage.

PS3
I’ve recently got the PlayStation 3 and couldn’t stop playing that Ninja game. You know, killing bad guys and monsters. I wish I was more persistent with music practise than video games. Video games can really suck the life out of you!

CHRISTMAS
I volunteered to wrap Christmas presents in exchange for donation to the Salvation Army for half a day. It was fun, and people are quite generous despite my questionable wrapping skills. They always say, “Don’t worry to much about it. It’s for my 4-year-old”. The challenge for that day was to wrap a gigantic box of Barbie house.

I bought my violin teach Gidon’s Back to Bach DVD. She sms me that she enjoyed the DVD but not so sure about his slow Partita movements. I had the same feeling. It’s hard to “tap” the rhythm in his slow movements. He’s a bit too “free” with the tempo.

YOUTUBE TIPS
Ever wanted to save some of the videos posted in Youtube but don’t know how? Look for a free software called MIRO on the internet. With MIRO, you can search and download videos from Youtube to your computer, so you’ll never need to be connected to the internet to watch the same videos again.
