Red Light Blues

October 2, 2010 at 9:04 AM

I got myself this handy recording device. Now I sit up late, listening to my takes on Brahms and Bach, the various ways I take and crumple them into a ball for the trash can. I've gotten to be a pretty good shot with the trash can, which is now overflowing with yellow wads of self doubt.

I first heard the Red Light Blues in Amsterdam but the instigator was Bacchus not Bach.

Shows how out of it I am!!  I thought "Red Light Blues" was an original composition, like maybe a lost Stuff Smith recording or something of that ilk.  OR...that it was a piece of original sheet music that some member had uploaded for our collective pleasure! Hmmmm.......maybe that's something I could do: compose a piece called "Red Light Blues", that is.  Let's see: "red light" usually means STOP, so I could put in a bunch of double stops, but it's also a blues, so that implies certain scale patterns and stylistic traits...hey, don't mind me: I'm just ramblin' on here.....
