Is this website only for violinists?

May 29, 2012 at 9:20 AM

I was just wondering why people only discuss violin and viola stuff. Is it because this is VIOLINIST - dot com -, or just because people here are so obsessed with the violin that there's no time to talk about other stuff? :P

I mean, there are many, many great compositions/transpositions (is that a word?) for cello, for example the Arpeggione sonata (kinda ironic since it's an arpeggione sonata :P) and the Dvorak concerto, from the top of my head. The Bach solo sonates are also very popular but I haven't really listened to them.. And it's not like us violinists only listen to violinists' stuff. I'm kinda interested in your opinions of non-violin/viola music. Oh, I also really liked Mozart's flute/harp concerto and his Oboe concerto, hmm, maybe I should listen to them again..

PS: 'Do you wish to allow readers to submit public comments to your blogs?' I chose yes, does that mean non-readers can also comment? I think not but I just want to be sure

PSS: Forgive me, I'm new, so I guessed it was okay to make such a long entry = D

Hi Atilla,
Being "Violinist.com," yes, we're a website for and about violinists, violin, etc.. Of course, violinists tend to be endlessly fascinating people with great curiosity about the world. Not only that, but the violin is used in all kinds of music: popular, fiddle, rock, hip-hop, klezmer, world music -- I even recently saw a dub-step fiddle video, check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHjpOzsQ9YI

So in answer to your question: talk away. You'll also find a lot more in the archives than talk about violin!

LOL her movements are almost as annoying Joshua Bell's! xD
Sorry mr Bell, I hope I haven't offended you too much..
I normally really don't like dub-step but I have to admit, this actually doesn't sound too bad. It's a bit slower dub-step than I usually hear, is it even called dub-step?(Maybe techno? No? I don't really know..)
Btw, Laurie, I'm a huge fan of this website and of your interviews and I look around on this website for 30minutes to 2 hours a day! So thank you very much for keeping it up!! :)
