My lesson yesterday was HORRIBLE. The tremors in my arm and hand made bow-control impossible. Fortunately, my teacher, who is very smart, suggested that tension in my bow hand was making it worse. We spent some time adjusting my bow hold, and this morning I made my entire practice session about the bow hold, keeping my hand relaxed and my wrist very flexible. It made a HUGE difference. It was wasn't perfect. I will need to spend some time retraining my hand to loosen up. But I know if I keep at it, it will happen eventually. I'm using Kreutzer 1 & 4 in conjunction with this.
My IV infusions are done, and I will now start on oral Prednisolone for 5 or 6 days. I'm hoping that once the amount of steroid in my system has stabilized, I will see a decrease in the tremors. Right now I have so much of it in me (750 ml over the last three days) that my system is kind of hyper-stimulated, which is keeping me awake at night (but boy, do I have energy).
I'm looking forward to being able to control my bow arm better. I hope that happens.
So sorry about the tremors/bad lesson, but how nice to have a smart teacher who could tackle the problem effectively. That's half the battle.
Oh yes, it is very nice. By making me refocus on my bow hold and bowing motion, I have had better practices the past couple of days. I don't know if the problems with the hold developed simply through my being lax, or if it's connected to the MS, but either way, I feel that I have a tool to correct the problem. I was beginning to be afraid that I wasn't going to be able to play anymore!
