a small piece of UBC around fall

October 20, 2007 at 7:42 PM

How differently do we all view art? I saw this building and had to take a picture of it. The sun, the blues and the reds just made a beautiful contrast. I showed this picture to my dad and he said "it looks like something has splattered against the side of the building".

That's a beautiful photo. Is the red climbing up the wall ivy in autumn? I've never seen it that color. I'd love to see some more of your photos of Vancouver and UBC. Your verbal descriptions are tantalizing.

Kesley, I believe autum became my favourate season of the year when I started to attend UBC in the 90s. This particular climber was used in an older building near the Asian Centre and I believe it was either Virginia Creeper or Japanese creeper, with its free flowing intense red and orange colors on a huge concret wall in contrast with the blue sky. It always made me happy. I’m not sure if the old building has been replaced with this one or is this a different building? Is Yum Yum still there? That was where the old building was. The Yum Yum had creasy spoon-kind of food but it was a great place for the students and faculties to hang out together. Thanks so much for posting this beautiful photo. It sure brings a lot of good memory.

Yixi! Yum Yums is still there! It's in the basement of the Old Auditorium. I personally haven't eaten there as the food is kind of pricy and people say it's not really all that good. I tend to go to the student union building or to the Vanier Residence cafeteria for my food consumption when I'm having to buy food!
