Do you know where I can find a free recording (online) of Paganini's "Duet for one violin in C major"??? I want to hear a REAL person play it and I can' seem to find anything on the internet!
I am certain that there is a recording by Ruggiero Ricci, but I have no other info.
Sandy
This piece is hard to keep in tune since you're doing left hand pizzicato while playing bowed notes at the same time. I don't do much vibrato because every time I pizz while playing solid bow notes, that's my "vibrato".
This is the one time I'm REALLY GLAD I have hyperflexible joints. I find the slower beginning part more challenging than the fast section.
I gave my sheet music away to a student as a present when I moved away from his town. I had learned this piece about 3/4 way but never quite nailed it. I will make a point of getting the sheet music for this piece as soon as I can.
Salvatore Accardo's recording is the best. E-mail me at SamLee0519@gmail.com if you want it.
Isn't file sharing of commercially available recordings ILLEGAL?
Besides, we can all spend a tiny bit of money to support artists like Accardo that share their music with us.
The reason I asked about free recordings was because I searched all the online stores I could think of, and nobody had a recording even to sell! I will try looking it up as Duo Merveille and if I still can't find anything, I think I will take you up on your offer Sam... (Sandy, my teacher suggested Ricci, but he also said it was only an LP recording, not a CD). Thanks for the help though... this piece has been fun to put together and maybe once I can play it, I should record it and add it to the internet!!! lol.
Try the Accardo Paganini box set of 6 on DG. It should have it in the box. It is in Vol 5.
Eliza: I'm pretty sure the Ricci is on a CD, with the Caprices and that 25th "Caprice." I'm sure I have it somewhere in my collection. I'll try to locate it (unless the Alzheimers is kicking in).
Sandy
Where is Ricci's version?. I've a crazy recording of the caprices plus the 25th. (caprice d'adieu) on Vox, but it hasn't the duo marvielle. I've it by
Accardo on a DGG vinyl plus the caprices, the english hymn var.and nel cor. A devilish ingenious
piece,that duo.
There is a live Ricci version on his "Virtuoso" cd.
The 25 caprices (Ricci) are now also on Regis.
Don't you mean 24? Unless the 25 means the Duo Merveille.
There's a 25th caprice "d'adieu", and ther´s duo marenielle.Different works.
No 25 was recently discovered. Ricci on Regis has recorded all the 25. I do not have the recording because I'm not a Ricci fan.
It's not in the group of the 24. Paganini wrote them in 3 groups: 2 groups of 6 and 1 group of 12, and that's how he put it on the covers of the manuscript.
Where can I get the sheet music for the 25th?
or a recording for that matter?
The Caprice d'adieu is in a book of 4 Encores of Paganini, edited by Ricci and published by Schirmer.
Is this the "Ricci on Regis"?

Found it!!!
Price-Less CD #D12179
Published by Outlet Book Company, Inc., 225 Park Avenue South, New York, NY 10003
It looks like it was recorded in 1979 in Toronto, Canada.
It is an all-Paganini disc:
- the 24 Caprices
- The "Farewell Caprice" in E Major (c. 1831-32)
- Duo merveille (c. 1808)
The quality of the sound is a little "tinny," but the performances are Ricci's usual "go for broke" virtuosity and intensity.
Sandy
for some reason i don't think there should be a 25 caprices set. it doesn't sound right.

July 9, 2006 at 04:26 PM · Free is a tough one...it's actually not too difficult by Paganini self accompaniment standards...maybe go to Amazon.com and see how long of a sample they offer? I know Accardo has recorded the piece. Also, check out www.emusic.com You get 25 free downloads or something of that sort when you sign up.
Note this piece is more commonly referred to as Duo Merveille.
