Warchal

November 27, 2004 at 04:29 AM · Hi!

Has anyone tried Warchal strings. I just read their page at www.warchal.com, seems interesting.

Pretty cheap, Saitenkatalog sells them for 13-19 euros/set. (Could this be the almost free lunch?)

November 27, 2004 at 04:14 PM · Hmmmm....I've gone to their website, but they don't really have a place where you can purchase their strings. I've emailed them to find out.

Hopefully, I can get a set of strings from them and see if they're any good.

If I can, I'll be back to let everyone know how they sound!

November 30, 2004 at 04:03 PM · I recently bought a set of Warchal Karneols and will be trying them out on my violin very soon. I'll give you a full report when I think I have a good idea of what they do.

December 8, 2004 at 10:45 AM · I've had Warchal Karneols on my violin for a little while and I think I can give a fair evaluation now.

The G and D strings are great, a nice, velvety sound. I'm not sure how I feel about the E string, because it's hard to decide if it's squeally or not when then A string is so thin-sounding. When I play my open strings, it's like having two rich king's singers, a starving off-off-off Broadway tenor, and a short, fat prima donna soprano.

I emailed Warchal about the problem with the A-string and they're sending me a metal A string to try instead, so at least the customer service is good.

I've mentioned elsewhere in the discussion boards that for Christmas I'm getting my teacher a set of Warchal Ametysts to try, so I'll send in yet another update when he tries them.

December 9, 2004 at 06:44 PM · Any idea how to get ahold of these guys? I emailed them about 2 weeks ago regarding their strings and how/where to purchase them. I haven't heard anything back from them yet and I'm kind of anxious to try them!

December 15, 2004 at 10:32 AM · I think I emailed to warchal@warchal.com to get a hold of someone. Since the company is Slovakian, however, they speak fairly simple English. I have seen a place online where one can buy them http://saitenkatalog.de/catalog/default.php/manufacturers_id/101, but I bought mine from a local instrument shop which had ordered them at the request of some prominent chamber musicians.

When I emailed the company about the thin-sounding A-string, they sent me a metal A-string (not Karneol, Ametyst--it sounds great to me, but I need a second option).

Over all, I think it's a good company with good strings. I'm looking forward to trying more of their strings in the future. They told me via email that they will be releasing a new line of strings in the coming year.

December 15, 2004 at 08:10 PM · Hi!

I emailed Warchal about the same time I put my question up here and I asked about their strings, especially those for smaller sized violins. Just a few days later I got two free sets of Ametysts for 1/8 violin by mail. Unfortunately they only sent me the 1/8 strings so I haven't been able to try them on my own violin and can't comment on the full-sized ones. Here are my comments about the Warchal Ametyst 1/8's though: I put them on my daughter's 1/10 a week ago. She played on Dominant 1/8s before and they were extremely good for her violin, very easy to play and quite resonant. Compared to Dominants the Warchals have quite a bit more tension and my daughter has to use a lot more bow pressure to get a good sound. Her christmas concert was today and the sound was OK, but the pressure required is too much for healthy development I think. So we will go back to Dominants (or Visions). Having said this I must say that the characteritics of Ametysts were interesting and I'm definetely going to try the full-sized ones myself.

The customer service seems very good but they told me they are having some trouble with Saitenkatalog so getting the strings could be a little difficult.

I think we got the message 'Horatio'... :-\ "there are more strings in heaven and earth...."
