I began to learn violin in Prague, from a jazz violinist. I continued in Budapest with a classical violinist who was a student of the late Dénes Kovács. These days, I learn violin by sheer experimentation (with the help of an electronic tuner). My extemporaneous playing tends to sound like a cross between Hungarian and Celtic folkmusic, but as long as the neighbors don't complain, I'm happy just fiddling around.
Someday I would like to be able to play all the greats, but I'm in no particular hurry. My violin is patient and so am I.
