Nasruddin -- that's me!

December 10, 2008 08:27

Every now and then I have an occasion to be extra grateful for the encyclopedia of violin playing tips that V.com offers. This is such an occasion.

I am an SRTV: a shoulder rest trouble veteran, having tried this model and that, never to be satisfied with any of them for long. Now it turns out that I have been looking in the wrong place: hence Nasruddin. My music stand was 122 cm high, compared to my own height of 191 cm. And when you stoop down to look at something, but keep the head up, strange things happen to the gap between shoulder, neck and chin.

Searching on V.com for "high music stand" I found www.violinist.com/discussion/response.cfm, which showed me the light. I got a new stand, 155 cm high, and violin playing has become much easier overnight.
