How many hours should I practise a day? ( beginner )

August 22, 2016, 1:34 AM · I've been playing the violin for little over 2 years, and have gotten my self into the senior division of my local youth orchestra, as well as first violinist in my school's orchestra. I've read that beginners should only practise for about 1-2 hours a day, but I don't feel like this will be enough. I currently practise for around 5 hours a day, but I'm not sure if this is too much practise (if there is such a thing) or if I should cut down a bit. My teacher said that it was great that I had devoted 5 hours a day to practise, but I just wanted to see some other perspectives and opinions on the topic.
