2. Book 1 begins with open strings and gradually introduces 1^st and 2^nd finger. (Book 2 will take the beginner from 2^nd to 4^th finger in first position.) The progression from open strings to 2^nd finger has been assiduously thought out so that the beginner's confidence is never challenged.

4. The accompanying CD contains the piano accompaniment on tracks 1 to 17 whilst tracks 18 to 34 are piano with violin. The violin parts are played by pupils rather than professionals. The beginner needs to feel able to aspire to what he/she hears rather than feel intimidated.
