So, it's been a week since I checked out the violin for a trial period, and while I've still had slight ups and downs about it, I think overall I still love it just as much as when I went and got it. It's just so much easier to play than the violin I've been using; shifting is so much easier and smoother, for example, and even the tone the violin can produce in these higher positions is so much nicer. I had my old teacher from high school check it out as well, and she agrees that the violin itself is good - she recommended some other string types I could try to get rid of some of the "edge" of the sound, which is something I know I had trouble with on my old violin. Also, I will definitely want to get the bridge swapped out, as the string heights are not aligned correctly. So while sometimes I have these slight problems that I know I will be able to get fixed once I start violin lessons next fall (I'm very busy this term), the violin overall is a great one, and I'm very excited to play around with its sound, as it's a sound I feel I can develop in my own way as I begin to live with it more, especially if I play some of my own compositions at recitals and things. I haven't actually purchased it yet, but I know when I do I will really be able to explore sound in a whole new way and just have lots of fun playing in the future! (Whenever I watch on YouTube some pros playing their violins in solo or chamber settings, I think to myself, now I could sound as good as that with the help of this better instrument!)
Also, I began playing the violin in 2007, and this violin, according to the label inside, was crafted in 2007 - how fitting!
Thank you!
