How far I have come

April 16, 2010 09:42

I was thinking recently about how very far I have come with my teacher in the 4 years I have studied with him. To see how far I´ve come I´ll turn the time machine back four years.

Four years ago I took a test that was the equvalient of grade 5 ASTA and Grade 5 ABRSM. I could handle the first 4 positions pretty well and had a good bowing hand. I was well experiences in playing in chamber ensemble. I played Vivaldi G Minor Concerto, Rameu Gigue and some Vivaldi violin sonatas.

Then I changed music conservatories and started in my current one with my current teacher.

Now four years later things have really changed.

I have moved up 3 grades in 4 years and an aiming to finish the equvalient grade of ABRSM Grade 8 next Christmas. I am now playing famous violin repetoire and even have a real virtuosic piece. I now have pieces from grade 8-10 ASTA. I can now play comfortably in virtually every position on every string. I can reach in the high registers of the E string with just using my hearing.  I can play 3 octave scales almost at first sight and it takes little trouble to get them right. I can now sight read with comfortability and have been compliemented on my sight reding skills. I have played in chamber ensemble, string chamber, youth orchestra, solo, duett and accompanied singers. I have played some of the biggest works of the orchestra repetoire.

It often feels like I haven´t moved one bit in my violin playing but looking back I see how very far I have become. The road with my violin has not been easy but boy has it been fulfilling.
