Swan Lake Virtuosic Violin Solo

November 27, 2008 at 05:34 PM ·

I was listening to the Swan Lake Suite on the radio, and one of the movements had an incredible violin solo not unlike that of Paganini.  Lots of chords, flourishing notes, and virtuosic moments.  There was even a place where the violin played a rather fast scale of tenths!  Does anyone know which movement or dance this is from?

Ah, I think I know what your talking about. It could be Swan Lake, Op.20: Danse Russe. If you search Janine Jansen on iTunes and click on the self titled album with the white album, the first song is what I'm talking about. Tell me if it's what you think you heard. It is a beautiful piece indeed.

Yes, Paul, that was it!  You are the greatest, man.  Thanks a million.

Mr. Frohnen, I can't wait to check out those recordings, thanks.

And Mr. Lecher, those two dances are absolutely gorgeous.

Brian,

If you find somewhere that this can be purchased, could you please let me know?! :)

I was searching and I couldn't find an addition for just violin and I really would not like to pay $127.00 for a whole full orchestra set!

Do you mean the sheet music?  I don't know where to find just the violin, but here is a free copy of the score.
