Way to go, adult learners.

December 25, 2007 at 12:22 PM

Looks like its that time of year again.
I notice I last blogged a year ago. Seems reasonable to not do it more often.
I've spent the evening doing the Christmas visit thing, Merry Christmas to all V.Com-rades out there.
We had a freezing day here in Umina - temperature went down to about 15 early in the afternoon, we had jumpers on, socks. Such a contrast to most Christmas days that are humid and sweltering.
We went to the beach as usual, but only my son surfed, I played with a soccer ball.
I practised a bit today, loving chrimatic scales and 3 octaves. But can't figure out the pattern at all for the diminished scales. It just doesn't stay in my head. Must work on this over the next week or so.
Thankfully my teacher has offered to keep doing lessons over the break, so I won't feel so lost. And we have summer strings coming up for a week at the end of January, so yay to that as well.
I am going to write again tomorrow with a link to a couple of clips from our recital with our adult learners ensemble. They are taking too long to load tonight (must be Christmas traffic from the other time zones. I have found these to be fun to analyse, just have to switch off my ears at times. And concentrate on some good stuff as well as not so good.
What am I happy with:
I'm using most of the bow when I need to.
I'm dividing the bow nicely.
my bow arm looks much more relaxed thatn it used to, and my elbow is pretty much sorting itself out. I think I'm okay with my bow hand as well.
My speed in the left hand has increased this year.
My moving in and out of positions and going straight to positions has continued to become more accurate.
I can keep a costant rhythm and I only get lost for a few beats when I play in ensemble these days.

What do I need to work on in 2008:
Keep at the intonation. Now its just that little bit off at times that really irks me.
Vibrato.
Vibrato. More Vibrato practise.
In order to improve vibrato, I need to really relax my left arm. That's the BIG THING for 2008 for me.
Get all the scales under control.
Melodically playing chords and double stops.
