I realize that I never did post about my Mom. It's the reason I haven't posted anything in such a long time.

At the end of March, Mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor. While the doctors hemmed and hawed and tried their best to figure out what was going on, the tumor basically took over. Her body rejected the chemotherapy, and we moved her into a hospice room at a local nursing facility. At the end of April, she passed away. I was able to play for her a couple of times during her convalescence, and I think she enjoyed it even when she couldn't tell me so anymore.

I'm just barely starting to be motivated to practice again, and most of my practice time is getting sucked up by baby preparations and family time.

I did finally get out to play quartets again -- that was nice. We played Haydn 17 #1, I think, which was okay, and then we played the first three movements of Schubert's Death and the Maiden, which was well worthwhile. Next time we'll tackle the last movement, which is endless. But I'm sure it'll be equally worthwhile!

I am so sorry about your mother, Patty. It must be a very hard time for you, especially with your baby coming so soon. I remember last year when the cellist in your quartet died suddenly. You were in my thoughts and prayers then and you are now.

When is your baby due?

Patty, you haven't written in your blog for a long time, and I wondered what happened to you. I was afraid that something had gone wrong with your pregnancy. I am so sorry that you lost your mother. My thoughts and prayers are with you. I hope that you can focus on the hope for the future that your baby will bring.

I, too, am sorry for your loss. I'm sure writing about it in your blog was difficult, but in a way, healing. August (?) and the new babe will be here before you know it :)

Thanks for all your support. I had started several times to post, but was never quite able to finish satisfactorily. I know that all you folks are a wonderful community and that I should post, so I'm glad I finally was able to.

Luckily, so far all is quite well with the little bun-in-the-oven. We're certainly keeping busy with all the preparations, as he's due August 10th and suddenly that date seems like it's getting quite close...!

Any suggestions for names? :)
