The Library is FINISHED!!!

Well - a few days and I have catalogued EVERYTHING that's in the house at the moment. On paper it doesn't look like a lot - and when I look at the boxes and binders it doesn't look like much, but it's nice to know what I own. Beaux Arts Trio playing Haydn Trios, Amadeus Quartet playing Mozart - and a recording of my teacher, Ken Goldsmith, playing Mendelssohn Trios along with David Oistrakh and Lev Oborin playing the Beethoven Sonatas. Having moved around so much during the past few years, it feels very good to have a list of what I'm carrying around. Knowing that I will probably move again soon, it is great to have everything ORGANIZED and streamlined.

Having mentioned "lone violin recitals", I've actually found two pieces that I forgot about - a Milhaud suite (very short) and a work by a man named Julius Chajez, written in 1955 and dedicated to Mischa Mishakoff. The Chajez is interesting - rhapsodic, like Ysaye, but not as obviously "violinistic". It would be interesting to play it, not only from the perspective of being a "violinist", but also to see how the public really responds to the solo violin literature outside of Bach, Paganini, Ysaye, Prokofieff, Kreisler (yes, Recitativo adn Scherzo counts) and Bartok. Incidentally, this summer I found a solo violin work by Vincent Persichetti.

I also - and this is something that I"ve wanted to do for years - catalogued all of my orchestra parts, all of the saved photocopies from lessons, festivals, camps, weeks with specific conductors. Granted, it's all paper, but it's all bound and I"m happy to have that out of the way.

The decks are clear.

That's impressive work. I have hundreds of CDs, plus cassette tapes and vinyl records, and bookcases full of sheet music. Do you want to catalog my collection for me next?

I got a better idea Pauline. How about you send me all your CDs, LPs, casettes, and sheet music?
