Jazz Band

April 7, 2008 at 9:33 PM

I might be able to join an online Jazz Band! I'm excited. I'll be playing piano I guess. Even though I could do violin, clarinet, or flute. Wish me luck. I have no clue how to play jazz. I'm in a lot of trouble if I make it then I can't figure out how to play jazz. The audition piece doesn't have to be jazz it just has to be you're best.

This is a good question for Scott68 to answer, if he still hangs out on v.com. He learned guitar before he started violin, and he emphasized the importance of knowing chord structures and arrangements. I'm sorry I can't help you myself.

Well I know chord structure and I can improvise but to have the feel of jazz probably comes with time.

The main thing is not to go in expecting miracles but to gradually get the hang of it. Knowing the music theory (harmony, chords) is crucial, but there is a lot more to it. You may want to get a jazz teacher or at least practice improvising on common tunes to help make you comfortable. Good luck!

What's an "online" band?

Basically they give me what they want me to play. I play it, apparently it doesn't matter how fast or slow I play it. They will copilate all of the tracks and mix them together. It sounds like a lot of fun.
