Horrible students

January 17, 2007 at 11:08 PM

If you refer to my August Blog: Evil English Report. I stated I loved teaching my new student. I officially don't. He always goofs off, never pays attention, and never listens to what I say. I have been testing him, here are the test results:
70
80
70
80
55
36

It's not me, because I teach pretty good, and I review before every test everything on the test. (I wrote these tests.)

Does anyone else have problems with their students? What do you do about it?

I thought this was about an English class for a moment, and "teach pretty good" made me laugh.

It looks to me like either he suddenly lost interest two tests ago, or he was coasting until then. I'm assuming this is a one-on-one teaching session. If this is the case, then even if you do teach pretty well, something's not getting through to your student. It's your job as the teacher to figure out what that is and why it is, and to fix it. If he's not self-motivated, how can he be motivated? Can his family do it? Is he paying you enough to motivate him? :) Maybe moving to some other part of the repetoire for a little while would revitalize him.

His exam is in the next lesson. I can't postpone it. and I've tried getting him interested. But his dad is insistent on him learning. I don't know how to tell him.
