Ukulele

Does anyone who lives, has been, or is there now know how much it would cost to buy a cheap beginner, but not a piece of dirt ukulele?

Yes. $150 +/-. $200-$300 will buy you a fine one in Mahogany. You have to get over $400 typically for koa.

Lanakai brand is ok at the $60 range but they are laminated and made in china. But they are very playable.

If you are in Honolulu there are a lot of places to go. You can even go to the Kamaka factory! (they make truly outstanding ukes played by many top stars).

I like "The Hawaiian Ukulele Company" at 1 Aloha Tower Drive, in the Aloha Tower Marketplace. My newest card shows a website now: http://www.thehawaiianukulelecompany.com

The owner (C.N.) is a great player and teacher, too!

Regards,

Bill

I thought Ukeleles had been banned under the Geneva Convention as cruel and unusual punishment ... along with accordions.

I wasn't quite looking for a super expensive. I don't need one that's hand made in Hawaii. One made in China is more preferable, to see if I like it.

Neil, you're confused. That's true for banjos. ;-)
