Music Theory

November 15, 2006 at 9:18 PM

I want to start studying writing four part harmony. I have posted a thing on the discussion board, but if you have any other advice, please let me know.
Four part harmony must have lots of hard rules. They should make it easier.
I have a friend who plays violin for 7 years now. But he doesn't know the first thing about music theory. I was so sad for him. Because if he knew then he wouldn't be so uninformed.

I want a grand piano. If you would like to donate to this please e-mail me. Only joking- kind of.

Greetings,
studying four part harmony is invaluable. One way to make it more interesitng and useful, irrespetive of whether you work diligently at all the textbooks, is to play and enjoy Bach chorales for a few minutes everyday. Litlte by litlte one can easily absorn the lessons of the master,
Cheers,
Buri

That's what I did (with the Bach Chorales). Worked, and I have a great appreciation for composition, both modern and historically...from understanding the movement and part writing.

Get a teacher or find a class. It will make the study a lot more enjoyable.

As soon as I get a grand piano, I will be glad to donate it to you. Do not hold your breath.
