Violinist Hilary Hahn has withdrawn from all of her performances through November, as she continues to recover from a double pinched nerve that has persisted since July.
"Her medical team has advised her to abstain from strenuous performance and travel as she continues to recover from a double pinched nerve," said a statement on her Facebook page.
"I am extremely disappointed not to be touring with the Berlin Philharmonic or to be returning to Ottawa this month," Hahn said. "Unfortunately, healing follows its own timeline, and I have to respect that if I want to be able to play far into the future. I hope to be on the road again very soon, and I deeply appreciate all the support I’ve received during this process. To my colleagues and concertgoers, I am so sorry that I can’t be there with you!"
The cancellations will affect her planned U.S. tour with the Berlin Philharmonic, with performances at The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and in Ann Arbor, Michigan; and concerts with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa.
For the Berlin Philharmonic performances of the Korngold Violin Concerto, Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang will step in for this weekend's Carnegie Hall appearances, and American violinist Benjamin Beilman will perform at the Kennedy Center and in Ann Arbor. Pianist Jaeden Izik-Dzurko will perform Brahms’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the National Arts Centre Orchestra.
Hahn's recovery has caused cancellations of most of her performances this fall, including scheduled appearances with the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
We wish her a thorough recovery!

My favorite music quote is by Tchaikovsky: "Music is not illusion. It is rather revelation. Its triumphant power is that it reveals to us beauties we find nowhere else. And the apprehension of them is not transitory, but a perpetual reconcilement of life."
Ms. Hahn, you are a wonderfully great artist, and I hope and pray that you will not only successfully overcome the challenges you are facing, but in the process discover unique and perhaps formerly unrecognized beauties in violin music and performance.

I wrote of this truly sad news on my Elisabeth Anne Matesky Facebook Timeline yesterday, Friday 15.11.24, knowing of it from Norman Lebrecht in London, and a renowned Doctor friend - Violinist here and former Grade School mate of US Violinist in the Berliner Philharmoniker, attending a hoped for Rehearsal of the fabled Berliner Philharmoniker with listed Chicago Orchestra Hall Programme of Anton Bruckner's Symphony V ~
Some Fine US/UK & Italian Violinists wrote in with Replies on my EAM FB Page ~ I thought it a Professional Courtesy to share this with Violinist.com Readers, cum Violinists & String Cousins for medical accuracy & some false ideas of 'similarity' to both my 2 GOAT Violin Mentors ~
