Austin Symphony Joshua Bell

August 24, 2006 at 3:54 AM

So time flies. I haven't been able to play as much as I'd like. I got a new puppy, a female white German Shepherd named Bailey and that's been quite a bit of work to make sure I'm responsible large dog owner to have a pet that does not jump on people or try to eat them.

She has a very sweet disposition and it's worked out well. She's 4.5 months old now.

I just started playing in earnest again and it's been a welcome respite.

I got Sascha her own violin for her 12th birth day, a Gems I 7/8 from Gliga (www.violinslover.com). She loved it and was very excited. I'm amazed how long it takes to get simple songs out of kids in a year :). She can play Twinkle, Twinkle and some other things but really seems to like it.

Macalah, 7, is excited to get her own violin for her birthday in November (they've been using rentals). She wants a black violin or one with a Lion Head scroll. It will be challenge to get a quality 1/2 size violin in that unique of a pattern. Her neck to mid palm measures 19" maybe she'll need a 3/4 by then?

SO it turns out Joshua Bell is coming to Austin in September. I definately will go see him.

Work is really busy, our company got acquired by a public company and I'm going a road show to train the sales people. A city a day for two weeks, I'll be taking a travel violin to practice in the hotel room :)

Maybe you should also take a mute to practice with in the hotel room.

Absolutely, I have one of those huge metal mutes that sits on top of the bridge and dulls most of the sound.
