My customers love Pirastro's fairly new "Passione" strings on their Gotting violins!
When I worked for Beares in London between 1969-1990 we nearly always put Eudoxa strings on the best antique instruments. I think it was in the 80's that the plastic core strings appeared and because people liked the extra power and quicker playing in time, gut strings became "old fashioned".
Now Pirastro are offering "Passione" gut core strings that really combine extra power with quick playing in time and longer life.
A customer of mine recently came back with a violin that I had handed over four months earlier, he played the original set of "Passione". They did not only sound as good as on the second day but showed no sign of damage! NO, I'M NOT PAID FOR THIS!
Bravo Pirastro for bringing back the superior sound of the gut string!
