Saturday night my teacher and I went to hear Vadim Repin! I've never really heard of him but he's very famous. He played the Shostakovich concerto, which I really liked. He looked a lot different from his publicity picture, kind of tall and grim-faced. He got a huge standing ovation but didn't really smile even! Or maybe it was the angle or the lighting.

He used a real variety of vibrato and got a whole lot of different sounds (something I'm working on, so I noticed!) The performance really draws you in, it ws amazing. My teacher said that he has come to hear soloists before, and been kind of disappointed. Not because they didn't play well or anything, but they didn't really get to you. Anyway, it was really fun to hear him.
