Twilight Zone

November 6, 2006 at 5:38 AM

I have been practising Paganini's Perpetum Mobile using the metronome, slowly increasing the speed. Lately I found that after playing a few measures (bars) the metronome seemed to slow down and that I've entered into a different time zone. Once I've stop, the metronome was ticking at the normal speed again.

It's such an odd feeling. Anyone had the same experience?

My girlfriend sometimes has a similar experience, but her problems are much worse - they can set off an epileptic fit, so she doesn't use a metronome.

Epileptic fit? That sounds dangerous.

I usually practice in the late afternoon/evening. Maybe it's a result of sunset... something to do with the change in the sun and moon's gravity or something... I'm not a scientist.

Let's see what my cello & violin teachers will comment on this experience.
