Virtuoso Violinist,

February 15, 2010 at 7:56 PM

If you want to be a virtuoso violinist, you must first accept the fact that you're insane. Secondly, you must be very persistent. Thirdly, accept that somewhere out there, there is someone just as good if not better than you. Fourth, you must have a critical ear, I say critical because a good ear isn't enough. You must be able to hear yourself as if you were your own audience. Fifth, once you become a virtuoso, you must be humble; never try to shame someone who is not at your level of expertise, rather, instead nurture their talents so that one day they can be a great as you.

no 6: be realistical??? ; ) I don't know you so I'm not saying this to you but so much people think they'll become the next Repin! I'm not saying to aim for bad standards, this is different... Though I sure agree about the general ideas you told. But it's also as gambling... and depends on context, opportunities...

Have a nice day!

Yeah, I guess a sense of realistic potential should be in there somewhere. We can't all be like Seidel and advance in leaps and bounds. I think that if someone shows some natural predisposition toward the violin try to cultivate it to the furthest degree. I wonder what paganini was thinking... For some reason I don't think he wanted to be like anyone else. He was a self possessed player and I think that most Virtuosi are they don't really strive to be like anyone else, but only the best they can be.
