Local Children's Orchestra to be Featured on PBS

December 2, 2010 at 8:05 PM

A performance by the Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra (formerly the S. Pasadena Children’s Orchestra), conducted by Susan Pascale, will air nationally on 200 PBS stations this holiday season. Locally, it can be seen on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 10 p.m., on KCET-TV.

The performance was recorded last year at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, as part of the L.A. County Holiday Celebration. The six-hour show was initially broadcast live on KCET on December 24. It featured dozens of ensembles. Afterwards, the program was condensed to an hour for national distribution the following holiday season. “We’re honored and excited that we made the cut!” says Pascale.

A full video of the orchestra’s performance is on the South Pasadena Strings Program website, at http://www.stringsprogram.com/media.htm. A trailer for the 2010 show, with a glimpse of the orchestra, is at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWEKh5HRg-8.The,

There will be numerous opportunities for the public to see the orchestra perform live this holiday season These include:
. - December 2, at 4:30 p.m., at the South Pasadena Tree-lighting Ceremony at the Mission Street Station.
 - December 4, at 3 p.m., at Scripps-Kensington Senior Residence Auditorium, in Alhambra.
 - December 17, at 6:30 p.m., at the Golden Oaks Senior Residence on El Centro Street in South Pasadena.
 - December 19, at 5 p.m., at the Oneonta Church on Garfield Avenue in South Pasadena.

The PBS showing isn’t the first time the Children’s Orchestra has appeared on the national stage.  In April, 2009, the group played Carnegie Hall, where they set a record as the youngest orchestra ever to perform in that famous venue. Orchestra members were featured on the South Pasadena Tournament of Roses float in January 2010,  They have appeared on the nationally-syndicated Larry Elder show, and on MSNBC news.

This April, the orchestra will celebrate its 10 birthday. For more information about the Los Angeles Children’s Orchestra, go to www.stringsprogram.com  or contact Susan Pascale at 626-403-4611.
