Been under the weather lately but Im starting to feel better. Anyone have the flu for a week? Spent some time listening to cds from the library:

Murray Perahia - Schubert late sonatas - very interesting music, I like Mr Perahia's sound but somehow there is something missing from his playing...

Lang Lang at Carnagie Hall - I dont really like him much but this is the first time I heard the wanderer fantasy, divine, Mr Schubert was a real genius without any doubt whatsoever!

Midori - Bruch and Mendelssohn Concertos I love her sound and her vibrato is so expressive but I cant stand her Rubatos. I suppose I like her the way I like Kreisler, she sound is so beautiful I dont mind but rubatos drive me crazy! The playing here is indeed expressive and intensely eloquent!

Sarah Chang - Fire and Ice - I really like her sound but not the playing, there is something missing for me and im not really sure how to explain what it is. Lets just say I cant really listn to her after I listen to someone like Rabin or Oistrakh.

Its starting to get warmer here so I will be pracitcing more soon. I am eager to get better at playing those sacred works by Bach that I love so much. I need to start working 2 jobs again, there just inst enough money to be able to afford all these new dvds coming out like Oistrakh Brahms Concerto and Stern Brahms Trios and Perlman Paganini Concerto, I cant wait top get them. A few others, there is a Japanese dvd of Oistrakh playing the Beethoven Concerto and I still want to get the 4 seasons vhs with stern perlman zukerman and mintz. It is so helpful to have videos like this I can watch over and over. No guessing of bowings or fingerings, its all right there just like a teacher showing you how to play it.

One of my favorite things to do is watch tv when Im practicing. My favorite shows is law and order ci and I tape them, this guy is like a modern shirlock holmes and is so clever. Its my favorite show on tv. Its important to have something on tv to stir things up for me because the hose gets so quiet. Anyone out there practice with the tv on?

The guitar lessons are going well and it really helps out with the bills. The children are very eager to learn and its alot of fun for me to show them how to play. My goal is to get the students to the point where they can teach themself.

Other than that Im starting to think deeply about the Terri Schiavo case, the courts wont hear her case and for me its the whole DrKavorkian thing all over again, how disturbing...

cheers

Scott, like many people, I was sick with the flu or something else miserable for a long time. I'm feeling a lot better now, and I hope you will, too, and soon.
