Juticalpa, Honduras Project

October 17, 2011 at 3:13 AM

I am teaching music appreciation and other subjects at The Day-Star School in Juticalpa, Honduras.  This is a pretty unique gig, and I am starting to teach violin lessons after school this week.

Some of my students can afford instruments, while others may not be able to.  We have three school instruments that need some work. But even when we do get work done on them, these might not suffice the seven or more 5th and 6th graders who have been knocking on my door for lessons.

Even more, I was talking to a local and he really wants to start a project where there is more classical music in Juticalpa.  I am looking for ways that I can help out, and I'm looking for ways that I can get donations and other ways to get classical music to exist out here.

Does anybody have any ideas for me about looking for donations? And, musician visitors are welcome too! Have a great evening.

Michele
