no one cares.
Dear Erik,
Please take your negativity somewhere else.
Agree with Michael!
I am excited that Ms. Higdon is here at the University of Wyoming for a year as resident composer! I love her use of colors and textures in her compositions!
I agree too with Michael. Musical tastes can't be discussed!
what, no thank you?? where are your manners? if you want someone to do you a favor, then you should at least sign your name at the end. i am entitled to my own opinion.
I have just heard the Tchaikovski... She plays the original version with the precise indication of tempi in the first movement. That concerto was transfigured by Leopold Auer and many will be surprised by her very original and respectful interpretation of the entire piece. Miss Hahn ,in 2010,is simply breaking the so called conventional Auer approach which mislead many generations of violinist.
She simply recreates the concerto with a totally new perspective, probably the one that should have been imposed at the very beginning, instead of the overated Auer version. Finally, justice is rendered to the composer. The orchestra is simply amazing...
BTW, Erik, your comment is truly disrespecful. It does not have anything to do with freedom of expression. "No one cares" is not an opinion. It is a negative and unproductive comment. Every one is entitled to express their opinions here, which means if you like or not this or that and why...in a polite way towards the artists and your fellows on violinist .com
Can't wait to hear the Hodgin... Really,we are back to a new golden age with our very gifted young violinists...
Anne-Marie: I like what you write, but on the contrary, musical tastes should be discussed. It is very important in our musical education. It is part of the teaching. When you are trained that way,you always evolve. I can assure you that the violinists I thought being the best at 15, well, some of them do not figure on my list anymore. Of course,if you listen to virtuoso pieces all the time, you will always seek for brillancy. But if you like Bach ,Mozart or Sibelius, than ,you will find out that many of these Paganini specialists are weak musician. Listening a lot to great lyric and lied singers ( not opera,it is different) or pianists, helps a great deal into developping your concepts about profound understanding of music. Chamber music with score in hands is very rewarding. You then ear things differently and get away from superficial violin playing. That is why I appreciate Benjamin Beilman who gave and outstanding performance last night at the Indiannapolis competition. He is doing a great deal of chamber music and it is very rewarding for him and the listener...
btw marc, no. i think that michael is a drama-queen and makes useless posts. so much, that he felt the need to completely make up fake details about the Maryland All-State Senior Orchestra to get responses from the viewers. and the only reason I can think of of why he might do this would be to elevate himself.
