So on Sunday, I played Messiah #1 of three this season. It was much improved from the first rehearsal. The soloists were all very good, and the other violinist toned down (maybe to 9.9999 from 11) the Louisville slugger bow arm. The only scary moment was near the end, when the conductor had obviously lost focus and gave a very undiscernable tempo for "How Beautiful" . So I just had to decide what the tempo was and the soloist and I made it work. Earlier that morning, I also played at one of our historic churches for a service of lessons and carols.
This week is also the last week before school vacation. Georgia districts are getting squeezed hard, so our county has just taken half the lights out of all the buildings (the people who walked in darkness are us...). One of our school board members was quoted in the paper as saying that if things don't improve soon that they wouldn't be able to meet payroll in September.
Stay tuned for Messiah #2 & 3.
