Charles Goodnight ranched in South Central Colorado before moving into Texas with his JA brand and outfit - Charles Goodnight by Haley. He overgrazed the land and had to move. While in Colorado they had a sick cow that they found on a creek and doctored it. They named the creek - "Cripple Creek" back in the 1860's.To hear the song about going up Cripple Creek to see his gal sounds good, but is actually pretty ridiculous. It is desert.
There is a boom town named Cripple Creek way up in the mountains that is nice.
