San Francisco Early 1960's

May 25, 2007 at 4:09 PM

"You'd better come go with us tonight", said Elana. There's going to be a happening at "the Alley". A rising singer will be there and the Alley isn't usually wrong.

For the cover charge of $7.50 Nancy and I got in (North Beach). Steve and Elana were there also. There were two other couples there that night, four in all and "not" on stage but walking between our tables, ... Barbara Streisand sang for an hour.

Over on California Street - Segovia.

When kids today think about the 60s they're usually really thinking of the 70s. The early 60s was it's own distinct thing. I was just a little kid but I picked up on it. Ahh, Petula Clark singing "Downtown."

I just thought about being at O.C.S. at Newport, R.I. and not feeling too hot on Sunday morning. But I somehow had a prompting to go to the base Services and did so.

Just before time to start there was a helicopter that landed close by and in walked a short, bald/pink headed man that lead my Dad from the beaches to the Siegfried Line and into Germany. He sat on the bench in front of me.

Ike; and Jim there will be people that still don't know who I'm talking about.

Can't you just see Clinton or Bush doing something like that?

One of my earliest memories is Ike addressing the nation on TV. I know it was before I was 6, because of the house we were in. I remember having it on was at the insistence of my musical uncle, who was visiting and wondering what Ike had to say. My parents weren't political and wouldn't have cared about it. That house burned down a few years ago. Too bad. I would have paid the current occupants for a tour just to re-kindle memories :)
