Perlman vs Hahn

April 28, 2007 at 11:15 PM

Brahms A. Non Troppo

The differences: Nails

Sometimes Hilary reminds me of riding a fast horse. You know, like a Stud that sets you back in your seat at blast off and then the wind pins your ears back and your heart races like mad. I love it. Can that girl fly. So does Mr. Perlman but you can't hear it like you do with Hilary.

Then ... Strad, experience versus the most brilliant high notes in the world - Hahn.

Watch it Perlman, when Hilary gets your experience and more interpretation.

For now ... your are the King

It seems a little unfair, comparing Hahn & Perlman. Two very different musicians, decades apart in terms of maturity. My money's still on Perlman, much as I'm a fan of Ms Hahn too. I visit her blog regularly, hilaryhahn.com. She comes across as a very down-to earth person, a trait I find very endearing in celebrities.

All -

Did you hear her nails slapping the finger board about 1/3 of the way through Allegro non troppo? It is this dimension of her playing alone, that prompted me to make the comparison. Her nails. I think I was at Sony when I heard another piece she was playing, free to listen to, that was even more dramatic. I can hear a finger speed that is not even imaginable to my playing; ever.

And, if she has it, you know Perlman does also. I guess the women are just more exciting - like Da!
